This contemporary three storey house is located on a 445sqm north facing block a few hundred metres from the beach, with spectacular views of the ocean to the right hand side of the property. Enjoying these views while still protecting the home from the strong afternoon sun and westerly winds was one of the first elements that had to be addressed during the design process.
With the clients having a keen interest in horticulture and inspired by the architecture of Bawa, the aim was to create a home that placed an emphasis on the connection between the internal and external living areas. The use of strategically positioned ponds and planting areas, enhances a harmonious connection between all areas of the home. While the unique combination of the two stone types, Alpine & Mitta Mitta dry stones adds texture to the material palette flowing from inside to out.
With separate living zones for the parents and their older children, over two floors, all family members have their own private spaces. The main living areas are located on the second floor to capture the uninterrupted ocean views as well as the warm northern sunlight.
