Nestled on the south coast of Victoria, overlooking the serene expanse of Swan Bay, this architect’s own home seamlessly integrates natural materials, rugged textures, and a deep sense of place. Central to the design language of the home is Chambon travertine, which serves as the foundation of the exterior flooring.
This oasis-like home is a testament to the power of thoughtfully chosen materials, where architecture and landscape merge to create an immersive sensory journey. Rough cast render walls, layered planting, and organic natural stone flooring converge in a rich tapestry of textures.
With a light beige hue and rich surface texture, our Chambon crazy paving complements the home's off-white and off-black colour palette. The travertine is sandblasted and lightly distressed by hand, with a strong porous appearance and a beautifully supple feel underfoot.
The grout was carefully chosen to match the colour of the home's rough cast rendered walls. This creates a connection between the two materials and gives the impression that the wall is trickling down into the cracks on the floor.
Oversized, irregularly shaped Chambon steppers guide visitors along the edge of the house and through the outdoor living spaces, reinforcing the theme of natural movement and connection to the land.
Anchored by a Canary Island Palm Tree, the pool area features hand-chipped pool coping. Each piece of stone is beautifully imperfect and carefully selected to create a bespoke design and an organic, worn-in look.
