The owners built the home originally and had decided to stay for the foreseeable future so the decision was made to invest in an update. The client brief was simply to improve their views to the mountains beyond and to replace existing walls, hard surfaces and gardens with an updated easy to maintain solution.
The decision was made to remove many of the existing plants and palms where required to give back the views and de-clutter the gardens of plants past their due by date. Existing timber sleeper walls were replaced with core filled block walls and along with some original face brick walls clad with Clancy random ashlar walling which blended well with the bushland surrounds. Existing stamped concrete, exposed aggregate paths and pool coping and surrounding paving were removed or suitably prepared and new Ravello travertine laid which offered an easy to maintain surface with a lived in natural feel, which would be forgiving to anything the surrounds threw at it. Glass fencing was also incorporated to assist the visual transition between the different areas and ensuring an unobstructed view.
The only challenge faced by the clients was deciding where to stop as they loved the new look and feel of the outdoor areas, and being an acreage lot, could have gone on and on.
