Utzon(s)
The creative lineage of the Utzon family has delivered a multidisciplinary artistic legacy that transcends mediums and countries. Artist Mika Utzon Popov – grandson of Sydney Opera House architect Jørn Utzon – calls it a conversation, a discourse between people and places that has inspired an unparalleled output. That’s something his grandfather held dear: “He was more interested in the creative process and the collaborative dialogue around creating than anything else.”
Three generations. One collaboration. Endless possibilities. Designed with Mika Utzon Popov and Lin Utzon, our Utzon(s) collection is a symphony of sophisticated minimalism embodied by sustainable, solid, natural teak. Capturing the spirit of Jørn Utzon's original sofa – the collaboration is a creative conversation between generations, materials and muses.
Utzon(s) Collection
Eco Outdoor has a longstanding collaborative relationship with the Utzon family, with Mika creating the Illuminate Sculpture for our Melbourne showroom. After seeing the Jørn Utzon sofa in its original form at the Utzon’s “Can Feliz” family home (pictured left), we worked with Mika and Lin (Jørn Utzon’s daughter and an internationally renowned creative in her own right) to re-design the original sofa and bring the eight-piece collection to life in a modern market.
Meticulously designed and constructed using a marriage of handmade and high-tech processes to deliver a seamless premium finish, the new collection – comprising a sofa, lounge chair, dining table, dining bench, gallery bench, high and low stools and a luxurious daybed – brings the Utzon family’s uniquely refined design legacy to the Australian market for the first time.
