Born from the Earth’s fiery depths and shaped by the elements, lava stone is nature’s most durable material for innovative architectural surfaces. Lava stone carries a permanent, richly textured imprint of a volcanic eruption – trapped air bubbles, glittering metallic fragments and dark, mineral-speckled surfaces – which we elevate with a centuries-old hand-glazing technique that captures and celebrates these raw variations. Tiles are cut, glazed and tumbled to create inimitable surface colours and soft edges, transforming nature’s fury into refined basalt canvases.
A marriage of explosively fiery origins and forward-thinking design, our Glazed Lava tiles showcase a curated colour palette atop raw, textured lava stone.
What is lava stone?
Created from once-molten magma, lava stone is a feat of nature; a timestamp of earthly turbulence in the form of glittering metals and bubbly textures; an endlessly enduring and capable material suited to the most demanding environments. Fierce, fiery, flowing raw lava naturally hardens to volcanic stone, which we source to craft a range of innovative architectural surfaces for indoor, outdoor and wet areas.
How do we craft it?
With nature as our guide, we celebrate the raw imperfections of lava stone and elevate it with a hand-glazing process that’s been passed down over centuries. Skilled artisans apply glossy, tactile glazes to the tiles, which are then tumbled to produce soft edges or precision cut for a clean sawn look.
How do we offer it?
Due to its innate hardiness and dense materiality, lava stone is a dynamic and versatile material. We offer tiles in two formats – a traditional square and a thinner stick format inspired by traditional Japanese tiles – glazed in a curated colour palette of milky whites, smoky greys, speckled greens and captivating blues.
