The brief for the garden and pool re-design was two fold; creating privacy from surrounding neighbours was critical as well as working with two existing key features in the garden: the original swimming pool and a beautiful, well established crepe myrtle. Regarding the look and feel of the garden, the clients were after a simple and formal design that allowed plenty of space for lawn and open areas.
The first step in creating the garden for Good Manors was to redesign the use of space. Immediately off the back of the house a flat terrace was built to provide an entertaining area and extend the indoor-outdoor feel of the home. Moving up through a feature staircase, framed with colourful potted succulents, the next level of the garden was built to encompass large lawn areas and the existing swimming pool.
Extensive renovation works were carried out to the existing pool, pebblecrete was stripped from the interior, new Tortoise granite coping and surrounding paving were installed and the spa was filled in to create a greater lawn area. A new glass pool fence was added enhancing the clean simple look the clients were after. Perimeter planting was undertaken to create privacy and the crepe myrtle was treated as a feature in its own right. Checkerboard paving around the base of the tree enhances its prominence while tying in beautifully with the design aesthetic.
A simple palette of materials were used to maintain the clean, simple and formal design. Tortoise granite paving has been used throughout for all stone surfaces, creating a strong link between the two levels of the garden, subtle lighting has been installed to enhance the gardens features and the greenery has been kept classic with hedging and a tight planting schedule of flowering plants and climbers.
