Time Get Foraging
#2 Mushroom Tours – VIC
Scour lane-ways and byways of the Mornington Peninsula on a Mushroom Tour with forager Cameron Russell. You’ll discover a large number of local fungi varieties, both palatable and deadly, before a big cook-up of mushies (the ‘safe’ ones only). Tours run every weekend during foraging season, so you’ll have plenty of opportunities to fuel your mushroom passion.
#3 Whole Larder Love – VIC
Rohan Anderson is passionate about living off the land and is perhaps Victoria’s most successful hunter-gatherer. Join him for a morning of bush hunting in the pine forests of the Central Highlands in search for a delicious feed. You’ll be captivated by Rohan’s desire to inspire the masses to forage and get their hands dirty in the process.
#4 Weedy Connection, NSW
Head out for a day in the Penrose State Forest with Diego Bonetto, wild food advocate who is driven to promote foraging of all things edible, including weeds! On this tour you’ll forage the forest floor for pine mushrooms and learn how to cook them on the BBQ, of course with garlic and fresh parsley. What you don’t eat, you’ll be able to take home to share with your friends and family.
#5 The Fungi: An Introduction to a Curious Kingdom – NSW
Venture in the fungi kingdom during a workshop with Alison Pouliot, an expert in fungal ecology. You’ll learn the basics of fungus identification, the cultural history and the different specimens of the Albury region. Once you’re clued up, you’ll head out for a field trip foraging for the local wild mushroom varieties.
The best foraging spots are often those that are closely guarded secrets. Shrooming is fun and entertaining for the whole family, but fraught with danger unless you’ve learned how to identify the varieties that are safe to eat. So do yourself a favour and spend one of your chilly weekends foraging the forest floor on tour with an expert .
