Open House Perth 2017 highlights
It’s expected over 50,000 people will participate in this year’s event, so be sure to check out the Open House Perth 2017 program to get your weekend sorted. We’ve scoped out a few of the properties that caught our eye and may be worth a look.
CBD
In the CBD it’s hard to go past stepping into the offices of some of the country’s top architects. This year, Hassell and Geyer are opening their doors to their studios giving you unprecedented access.
Also happening in Perth’s CBD is the Skater’s Eye Tour. For an hour, local skateboarder Morgan Dyson will lead a tour around the city to some of the skater’s hot spots. This requires a booking, so be sure to snap up your place quickly.
West
The West prescient has ample buildings and homes to visit over the two days. We’re particularly excited to see Ascher Smith open the doors to Duke Street for the first time. You’ll find plenty of ideas to steal from this home which includes several Eco Outdoor products!
Also in the West is the iconic white masonry box that is home to the Australian Institute of Architects. And if you like historic architecture, you should join a guided tour of the Old CBH Building.
South
Just three locations are open down south including Silver Street by ehdo Architecture. Constructed over a four year period, the attention to detail is incredible.
East
Head East and you can explore David Weir Architect’s Exploding Shed House. This one 1 bedroom and 1 bath home proves limited space is not necessarily a negative. Another house that’s pushing the boundaries is the Nature Inspired Eco House by Etica Studio. The mix of materials and mid-century design style creates a homely vibe that contrasts with brutalist nature of the East Perth Transit Building
If you’re a whiskey fan, don’t forget to pop into Whipper Snapper distillery which will be hosting guided tours.
North
Over to the North, you’ll find another home that includes some of Eco Outdoor products. Renovated by the team at arc-seven.1, the 1937 art-deco North Perth Bungalow manages to balance character and history with the modern requirements of a young family and studio space.
Also in the North is the iconic Madaschi Residence designed by Bulgarian architect, Iwan Iwanoff and the modern Triangular House by Robeson Architects.
