Living Cities Forum 2017
Bringing together architects, designers and urbanists from around the world, the Naomi Milgrom Foundation, is set to host the Living Cities Forum on 27 July. The day-long forum will be a space for creatives to discuss the definition of ‘liveability’ and what determines a vibrant and desirable city.
The list of international and local speakers is impressive and includes: OMA managing partner-architect David Gianotten; architect Benedetta Tagliabue; Mimi Zeiger, critic, editor and curator; Dan Hill, head of Arup’s digial studio; writer, curator and architect Marisa Yiu; Andrew Mackenzie, director of URO Publications; and Rory Hyde, architecture and urbanism curator at the Victoria and Albert Museum, London.
Throughout the day, several themes will be explored in the hope of offering solutions to the challenges of the rapidly increasing urban density. There will be a discussion around preserving a city’s character, while embracing tourism and trade. How to help make a city smarter through developing technology, the impact of climate, and how to link the built and social fabric of the city will be major topics of the day.
While Melbourne has been rated the favourably in the Economist’s Global Liveability Ranking for the last six years, the Living Cities Forum aims to uncover how the city can continue to evolve in the future. The invited speakers will no doubt be able to share initmate knowledge of other diverse cities, from Los Angles to Hong Kong. This insight will enhance the dicussion about the future Melbourne in a global context.
