Coastal Modernism By Zias Design
Drawing on cues from the iconic mid-century modernist architecture of Palm Springs, Michael wanted to capture essences of this design style and embody a sense of elegance that this coastal setting offered. “With manicured lawns and complete privacy, connection to the land was paramount.”
The result is a single level open plan home that is sprawled out across the sweeping lawns, forming a connection to the existing tennis court and picturesque views. “The orientation allows for the pool area to be bathed in Northern sun all day and all the living areas and main bedroom take advantage of the spectacular outlook.”
The architecture is understated, yet the attention to detail is obvious everywhere you look. Expansive glass windows and a generous plane of natural limestone flooring create a sense of openness by burring the boundaries of the interior and exterior spaces. This provides the homeowners with a strong connection to the surrounding landscape which is such a dominant feature of the property.
Baw Baw dry stone walling is one of the home’s key design features. The blade wall runs through the home and out into the landscape. This again blurs the indoor/outdoor distinction as well as giving a nod to materials palettes of the 1960’s era. The irregular texture, imperfections and the warm tones add a visually pleasing contrast against the crisp modern finishes of the rest of the home.
Zias Design has blended the very best of classic and contemporary architectural styles to create a home that not only is a pleasure to live in but also appears as a striking structure in the landscape.
