A sense of continuity

Designed by Studio Arthur Casas, large panes of glass slide seamlessly open to completely connect the interior living space of this luxurious home with the incredible landscape.

The home has been designed for a couple and their three adult daughters.  It follows the edge of Fazenda Boa Vista golf resort, near Sao Palolo, Brazil.  In order to frame the views and maximise sunlight, the architect has designed the home on a linear plan to take advantage of the site’s aspect.  This provided the owners with views of the sprawling green course and the nearby woodlands, while offering privacy from nosey onlookers.

On the south side, facing the golf course, a pool runs along the edge of the home, keeping the living areas cool and naturally ventilated. In some places, the pool is only 50cm deep before getting progressively deeper to allow for swimming.  Various fish and aquatic plants take up residence in the body of water.

Continuity of materials defines this project

The standout of the home is the continuity of materials used throughout the interior and exterior.

The natural stone crazy paving runs throughout the floors of the main living areas and out to the large terrace.  This continuity is reflected above with the timber-clad ceiling cantilevering overhead, and a large wall of pale brick cuts through the home on the other plane.

The colour palette has been inspired by the warm, natural tones of the surrounding landscape.  Furniture and interior décor have been carefully selected in a neutral palette with touches of colour, all accommodating the Brazilian lifestyle.

This home is a great example of how restraint and continuity of materials, textures and colours from inside to outside, can act to open up the spaces and create a strong visual aesthetic.
