2017 Houses Awards winners announced
The Houses Awards, presented by Architecture Media, is one of the most well-regarded accolades for residential design. With 448 entries in 10 categories, the event has never been stronger. Taking place in the National Gallery of Victoria, the awards night on the 4th August was another evening to remember and the winners didn’t disappoint.
The 2017 Houses Awards’ top honour of Australian House of the Year went to Auchenflower House by architects Vokes and Petes. This deceptively simple form played on the humble weatherboard ‘Queenslander’, making “beautiful connections” with the quiet suburban streetscape.
“Auchenflower House offers an inventive model for working with traditional housing on suburban blocks and provides an intelligent and poetic paradigm for current practice,” said the jury.
The Auchenflower House was also awarded joint winner of the 2017 Houses Awards’ Alteration and Addition under 200m2 category.
