Natural stone is considered the holy grail of materials to use in a kitchen. Materials in a kitchen environment need to be durable. They need to withstand everyday tough use from high traffic to fry-pan splatters. They also need to be aesthetically pleasing to the eye and marry with the surrounding materials and colour palette, particularly in an open-plan design.

The natural variations in texture and colour tones make the stone a one-of-a-kind design element to add to a space. Use it on the floor, as a walling material or hero it on the working surfaces; the potential to celebrate natural stone is endless.

We’ve collated 11 inspiring kitchens that celebrate natural stone in their own unique way.

Outset Design has been bold with the floor to ceiling black cabinetry in this kitchen design. The light grey hue of the natural Andorra® limestone used through the interior has grounded this kitchen and connected it with the rest of the space.

A crisp white kitchen has the potential to look sterile and bland. Not this one. The natural textures of Alpine dry stone walling flank the kitchen adding warmth to the interior. Peter Woolman Architects have also added the stone flooring throughout which continues to enrich the space.

Hand-made Zellige Seafoam Cotto Tiles have been used to as a splash back in the kitchen of the Eco Outdoor Richmond showroom. Paired with the recycled skip-dressed pine cabinetry, the light cream patina adds a level of sophistication and authenticity to the space.

Rich textures and colour tones are the standout features of this kitchen designed by Aspect Architecture. The rural farm house is certainly not lacking in opulence thanks to the quality materials including the Alpine dry stone which is used throughout the home.

The kitchen and living areas of this Queenslander are dominated by the rich, warm hues of natural timbers. Kieron Gait Architects have used the organic grey tones of our Bluestone flooring to balance out the palette.

The natural blends of cream, yellow and grey Jericho limestone soften this kitchen and add an element of raw to the space.

This refreshing kitchen designed by Michelle Attard Design combines the textures of hand-made Zellige Chalk Cotto Tiles and light timbers with the crisp colour palette of whites, greens and blues.

Inspired by the modernist design aesthetic, Winwood McKenzie has used timber and Abyss Slate Tiles as the star materials in this1970’s besser brick Prahran renovation.

While not a kitchen, the bar of The Boathouse Shelly Beach illustrates how you can add a colour pop to a kitchen interior using the Hand-Pressed Cement Tiles. The cloudy, blue tones of the Salt Water tiles is perfectly suited to the cafés beach-side location.

A respectful renovation sees Enoki pay homage to this two-storey Art Deco gem. Porphyry crazy paving has been laid throughout the interior with the warm colour tones marrying well with the kitchen’s sophisticated timber cabinetry.
